The following notes are for those interested in modelling for my paintings and sculptures in the series “Daughters of the Caribbean”. I began series forty years ago in order to give Caribbean women confidence in their own natural beauty. The series continues from my studio at Antrim and comprises of hundreds of paintings and scores of sculptures of models from throughout the region. My search is not for professional models but for those blessed with natural and distinctive Afro-Caribbean features. Without exception, all of my models have enjoyed and benefited from the experience.
With a new model I begin with an introductory studio visit. This enables the prospective model to understand the theme of my work and how I relate to the model. The model can then go away and think about it or go straight into a brief preliminary modelling session. For the introductory visit I contribute towards the model’s out of pocket travelling expenses + payment for the brief (20 minute) modelling session.
If the introductory session works well for both model and artist, you are then invited to return at a later date for a full modelling session. A full session lasts for approximately one and a half hours and for that I pay EC$50.
My studio is located alongside the main road that leads from Canefield to Pont Cassè. All buses leaving Roseau for Marigot, Castle Bruce and the Kalinago Territory pass my entrance. My entrance is signposted on the left a hundred yards beyond DOWASCO’s conspicuous new filtration plant.
