Caribbean Alliance Insurance Co. Ltd. is a regional insurance company headquartered in St. John’s, Antigua
The company was started in 1969 in Antigua, and has expanded over the years into the islands of Anguilla, The British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica, St. Maarten, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Ascension Island and the Falklands. Caribbean Alliance has the largest market share in most of these territories.
The Company operated as a subsidiary of the Royal & Sun Alliance Group of the U.K. from 1988 to 2001.
Caribbean Alliance has an independent and conservative reinsurance program. As a leading insurer in the regional market, we are not willing to compromise on the extent or quality of our reinsurance program. We insist that all participants on our reinsurance program maintain at least an ‘A’ security rating, and our reinsurance partners are renowned global leaders such as Munich Re, Swiss Re and Lloyd’s.
Caribbean Alliance is rated A (Excellent) Stable at A.M. Best (the Independent Rating Agency based in the USA) and is the only General Insurance Company with its Head Office in the OECS that has a Best’s financial strength rating.
A.M. Best attributed the rating to Caribbean Alliance’s solid capitalization, growing market presence in the Eastern Caribbean, regional expertise and its commitment to sound underwriting principles.
At Caribbean Alliance we pride our self on our claims paying ability, and it is our strong reputation that has fueled our business growth. This philosophy has been proven following disasters such as hurricanes Hugo, Luis, Marilyn, George, Lenny, Jose and Ivan.
Caribbean Alliance has:-
• Settled US$200M in respect of more than 4,800 hurricane claims since 1995.
• Paid more than US$35M in respect of the Montserrat volcano.
• Settled 98% of ‘Ivan’ claims in Grenada within three months.
• Paid US$40M in recent years from 7,500 Motor claims.
Whilst our experience and financial strength enables us to respond efficiently to the most severe of natural disasters, we recognize that even the smallest of non-catastrophe claims matters a great deal to our policyholders.
Our background, and regional spread, enables us to focus on meeting the needs of each of the Caribbean markets in which we operate.
